Electric cars in cities - what is the goal of our project and how can we achieve it?

Project by Nils and Dylan

Our goal in this project is to find out how the environment would change if everyone would only drive around Zurich in electric cars. In order to find out, we want to come to an exact solution with our own research and various interviews.

We think that the future will be all electric cars and we will not drive gasoline cars anymore. We also think that there will be very crazy and fast electric cars with lots of cool gadgets. From our point of view the future will be much healthier than today. Because we have too much CO2 emissions from all gasoline cars. So more green could be brought back to earth and that would be much healthier for humans. Also we can imagine that the cars can still be driven by themselves, without the help of a steering wheel or something. We find it interesting and could imagine a lot of spaced out stuff.

In our project I expect that we can show a part of this big topic and answer our own questions. We also want to learn more about the electric car and gain experience ourselves. Even if we don't know everything and can't say what we can expect in the future, I think it is important to get some information about this topic and in my opinion it is our future.

Imagination of Survey on climate-changing measures

We hope to get a lot of data from our survey and to get people to care about these things. The survey should have more than 10 questions. We will make two versions. One in German and one in English to get more international participants. Our goal is to at least get 100 participants.

Surely we will be able to find some participants, which aren't from Switzerland.

We want to find a person, which is able to calculate us, how much it'd cost if we don't do anything about the environment.

Lost a lot of Progress, because it didn't save the post. Will have to write it again...

increase sustainability local farmland

Hallo iedereen/hello everyone

Sustainable food (just like all issues) starts with ourselves but on our own we can't get the maximum out of sustainable food. Therefore we need to go all the way to its source: the farmes. I think in the future sustainable food will be very important and much needed and I think there are a lot of possibilities to make our food more sustainable by making changes to the way it's produced.

First of all lets start with our local (crop) farmland. The export of food emits a lot of carbon dioxide (which is obviously very bad) so if we maximize our local farmland we are going to need less or even no food from far export. Also our local farmers aren't sustainable enough already.

So: we need to make changes so we can get the maximum food and sustainability out of our farmland. think about for example:

  1. - getting more crops out of small space
  2. - get enough energy/water/(fertilizers) in a sustainable way
  3. - crop diversity
  4. - using different crops according to the season
  5. ...

=> i'm going to do my project about how we can increase the sustainability on our local farmland. There are so much examples of how me can increase sustainable farmland so i'm going to reduce my project to only a couple of examples.

Imagination Urban Gardening

Imagination

- People already doing some Urban Gardening without knowing.

- We want to show people how they can do their part and let them know a bit more

- bring back more green space to the cities

- spread the knowledge we gain out of this project

- motivate people to do some gardening with easy steps

Expetations

- I think it will be hard to do an interview on the street. It could be a struggle that people take their time and maybe the weather isnt good as well.

- For the Interview in the shop it could be difficult to find a shop were they are open to help or find a shop which has time for us.

- The survey could be a success. I know a lot of people also around the world, so we will be able to see different views all over the world to this topic.

- I can imagine that our plan might not work out and we spontaneously change our plans.

sustainable food project

my research questions:

  • What type of spaghetti/pasta is the most sustainable?
  • How can I make my own spaghetti more sustainable?

first research:

A mind map from the different types of pasta I eat (it’s in Dutch so my further research would be easier)

-> the general types are the ones I know I eat through the year

-> the specific ones are the types I normally don’t eat, the recipes are from Libelle

My pasta = penne with bolognaise sauce

-> not sustainable

The pasta’s I’m going to research specific:

  • spaghetti with veggie bolognaise
  • penne all’arrabbiata

Sustainable food industry in Belgium.

In this project, I am going to investigate how the companies in Belgium contributes to creating a sustainable food industry. Most of the companies do this by supporting local food production. But buying local food starts with the short-chain.

When there are no intermediaries we talk about a short-chain. It means that you buy straight from your farmer and that you know where the product is coming from. As a result, the product travels fewer kilometers, and packaging waste is reduced. You always get seasonal vegetables and you support the local economy.

Why should it be local or straight from a farmer?

  • You get a fair price
  • You support the farmers
  • No intermediaries
  • No unnecessary transport or packaging à benefits the environment.
  • In touch with the agricultural activity
  • Learn to appreciate the advantages of seasonal products
  • Shopping locally could create as many as 1,785 extra jobs.

The company “Recht van de Boer” or “straight from the farmer” is one of the many companies in Belgium that supports farmers in producing local food. I am going to investigate how the company Recht van de Boer contributes to creating a sustainable food industry in Belgium.

Imagination - urban gardening

My imagination about this topic

I understand urban gardening to mean the planting and cultivation of my own products. In this context, I also mean bringing green back into the cities and trying to live in an environmentally friendly and "green" way. Urban gardening can be a small garden on the balcony or can be taken over by the cities on a grand scale. For example with city parks and so on.

We are going to do a survey and have an interview with a shop owner. I hope that the interview will provide me with further and exciting information for our brochure. I also hope to get a clear picture of a possibility for my own needs.
From the survey, I hope that we can inform and motivate people. I am also very curious to see how urban gardening is used or applied in different countries and how well known it is.

In my imagination people already know a lot about it and do this urban gardening already without being aware of it. But you have to make people aware that this is a great contribution to our climate.

Our projectidea

Animals in the city - How do they affect our environment?

We want to research the topic of animals who start to life in the city. Us humans take away their habitat and as a result of that action, they have to evade to our cities and our enviroment. How do they affect us? Can we do something to change it back to the way it was before?

We plan to do interviews with people involved in that topic and maybe even go on tours to see the impact and the consequences with our own eyes.

Step 1: Imagination / Good climate through greenery on the building

What is our goal and how can it be achieved?

What exactly is the effect that our group wants to trigger with our action?
We want to show people that green houses are a service to our urban environment. Leaves and branches act as natural dust filters for the city air. Green roofs are therefore a real contribution to ecological building. People should not underestimate this.

By which methods / tools should this effect be achieved?
We would like to get more information on this topic by interviewing people who already have experience with greening roofs. We also want to prepare ourselves for the topic with internet research.

With which strategy should this effect be achieved?

We would like to pass on the knowledge we gain through interviews and research to the population, especially to companies. It should encourage them to More...
