The Horse 2020/21

Environment & Technology

Our progress

Today, Jarno and I did quite a few things. We read a bunch of news articles, mostly about hydrogen and e-fuel, which was really informing!

In another step, we did create two new PDF's which will be quite informing in addition to our posts. Also we did share the surveys on the horse and privately. Furthermore, we did came up with some new questions we would like to ask Dejan (our interview partner).

Our next steps will probably be, pre-writing our article and ask our questions to Dejan.

We are still working on our other files but here you have the first one, which is done: E-Fuel.pdf (156,41 kb)

Test drive

Today, Jarno and I were going on our test drives. First of all, we drove a diesel car, then a hybrid, e-car and finally a fuel car. It was really interesting to test them directly afterwards. We drove every car for about 45-50 minutes so we could see really how they behave.

Currently, were writing our review and plan to publish it next week. We did quite some photos and also tried to do a “sound check”. Unfortunately, we couldn’t do a good sound check, as our mobiles and a separate microphone didn’t do well. In general, the hybrid and fuel car did behave the best. They drove comfortable and had a reasonable fuel usage.

Were looking forward to publish our results.

This was the hybrid car, we drove.

Our Survey

So today we finally have finalized our survey for Switzerland. As we said, we plan to do an international survey too, which will be released later on. Our national survey has 10 questions, which in our opinion are enough to get a good result. The goal of this survey in general is to see, how many people are actually driving a car, how many would go with public transports if the network would be better and if a car is even important for them. We hope to get many different and interesting opinions as a result.

We hope you can spend some minutes and do our survey: https://ee.humanitarianresponse.info/x/TCA5itNM

In the future, we plan to compare our national and international surveys. We would like to see, if people are more open in Switzerland or international-wide. This is a very interesting topic, because many friends and family members told us, that “Switzerland is far more open to e-cars or hybrids”.  We actually think that may be partially true and are looking forward to see an exciting result.

Currently we plan to publish our international survey later on in one of the biggest international forums to get as many answers as possible.

Our progress

In the two weeks of holidays, Jarno and I did quite a few things. We have worked on our website and got the basic designs. Furthermore, we found a second group from the Basque country which would like to do a cooperation with us. Their topic is noise pollution levels in cities generated by cars. Personally, I think that’s a great cooperation and also one of the benefits for the most people for e-cars!

Unfortunately, we couldn’t do as much as we wanted in these two and a half weeks, because there was a personal accident. We tried to get a test drive in a e-car, but this is quite hard. Many Resellers told us, that they won’t let a person test drive their car when they aren’t at least 25 years old. This is quite a challenge for us, as we really want to compare those different cars!

In the meanwhile, we did a lot of research! Many big cars manufactures like Toyota or Lexus did invest much money into fuel cars like e-fuel. We think that is a sign that manufacturers actually don’t believe in a „e-car only world“.

Even BMW did announce their first X5 hydrogen SUV, which will be released in mid 2022. If you want to learn more about the full hydrogen BMW SUV you can read this article: https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/tech-zukunft/alternative-antriebe/bmw-i-hydrogen-next-x5-fcv-wasserstoff/

Furthermore BMW did also announce, that they have put the full electric „1er series“ on ice.

In the next weeks, we will start our German survey for cars/e-cars. The link will be posted here so everyone can participate at the survey. We already have created some provisional questions:

  1. Fahren Sie ein Auto? Wenn ja welches? (Benzin, Diesel, Hybrid, elektrisch)
    1. Our goal with this question is, to know how many people allready use environmental friendly cars.
  2. Können Sie auf Ihr Auto verzichten?
    1. We want to know how many people would use public transports in general.
    1. We think the potential of buying a e-car is high and want to check it.
    1. We want to see, what is needed for people to consider buying a e-car or something comparable.
    1. Maybe many people would share a car, which would be environmental friendly.
    1. With this question we want to see, if cars are only a transport. If yes, those people could change to public transports in the future.
  7. Falls Sie einen Benziner fahren, warum?
    1. We want to know why most people drive a patrol car right now.
  8. Ist Ihnen die Leistung am Fahrzeug wichtig?
    1. This question helps us to understand, if a small car live a VW UP is an alternative for some people.
    1. Here we want to check, if our researches are in comparable with the opinions.
    1. Our final question is looking for people, who would completly change to public transports.

Future Progress

Jarno and I were really active. We’ve done some major design updates on our website, so people will be enjoying our information’s in the future. Furthermore, we already asked some peoples from the car scene in Switzerland about their first opinion. Many told us, that they actually won’t buy an electric car in the future, because the emotion is missing for them. This answer actually didn’t surprise us.

Furthermore, we have wrote down some questions for our international survey. Here you already can have a look at a few of them:

  • Will you consider an e-car in the future and why (not)?
  • What is the most important thing for you while buying a car?
  • What is the biggest downside an e-car brings for you?

That are three of our main questions. We actually want to do like 15 questions in this survey. We also planned a survey in Switzerland, so we could compare the result from international answers and answers in Switzerland. We also made a first direct comparison from e-cars with their advantages and disadvantages. Here you can have a look at our foil: Advantages.pdf (521,77 kb)

Our progress

Last week, we contacted Dejan Radmanovic. We talked with him about our project and asked him again, if we could ask him some questions. He agreed but told us that his answer could be delayed a bit, because he’s busy right now.

Meanwhile, we also got our reply from the bask-country. They told us, that they’ve had school holidays. They would answer our questions. Currently Jarno and I are thinking about something else we could do with the two students from the busk-country, so we actually make something else and don’t just ask questions. This part is pretty hard for us, but we’re sure that we will get an great idea!

We worked at our website and are pretty sure, that the website will be good. There are many points of view issues to consider for our text on the sides, which we will be working on in the next weeks.
