Climate change

I found an interesting article about climate change. It mentions that our summer will last half a year by 2100. Winter it self will only be 31 days.
Our summer lasts already 20 % longer than they used to be. The problem is not just that the summer lasts longer, it will be more extreme and forestfires will be more likely.
As already mentioned scientists have already noticed that the duration of summer has grown 17 days in 50 years. And the duration of winter has shrunk by 3 days.
Scientists says that even bigger changes will come.

Befter - Step 1, imagination

1. What do we need?
-Social media contacts.

2. What are the important questions?
-How much time do we need?

3. What are the advantages of an international collaboration project?
-Thanks to the connection with the ETH, we have the possibility to share our project.

4. What difficulties could arise?
-Maybe the situation with the pandemic could get worse.
-We could lose the focus on relevant areas for our project.

5. How can you get connected and involved?
-Trough social media.

6. How can you become a team?
-With the shared passion and the inspiration about glacier melt.

Project Textiles: International collaboration

1. What do we need for a collaboration?
- Communication tools (Zoom, Whatsapp, E-Mail, etc.)
- Schedule for meetings
- Good and clear communication / instruction
- Post our progress on the horse

2. What are the important questions?
- How do we start?
- How can we find the perfect cooperation?
- How do we structure our project?

3. What are the advantages of the international collaboration project?
- We can compare our country to another one abroad.
- We can improve our english.

4. What difficulties could arise?
- The time until the submission date could be too short.
- The different timezones could become difficult.

5. How can you get connected and involved?
- Contact the collaboration team and see if they would like to collaborate with you.
- Get in closer contact with the team (zoom meetings, phone number, etc.)

6. How can you become a team?
- Tell them your imagination and explain everything clearly.
- Listen carefully to the collaboration team and their opinions.
- Be prepared for compromises.

Audio pitch: Cheap clothes production and transport

We found a topic that could be very interesting and has been polution the environment for a very long time but no one is doing anything about it. We buy so many clothes without questioning where they come from and how they are made. We would like to focus our attention on how sustainable the production and transport of cheap clothes is. We are interested in finding out how staff are treated in production companies abroad and how large the proportion of child labor is. We are also questioning how many clothes are imported to Switzerland per year and which means of transport are used. And last but not least how did shipping change in the past years.

The Bee Project; Organisation notes

Important questions:

1) Who could be my collaboration partner?

2) What is my main topic of my project?

3) Which questions would i have been answered at the end of my project?

4) What difficulties could arise?

Possible answers on the questions above:

1a) national: a beekeeper (attend him, while he's gonna produce honey, ask him open questions and what are the reasons for having this passion) and Anabel (who also gonna buy a bee house and try the same experience like i do, but in a more natural environment. I'm gonna place mine at my balcony in an urban environment in the village centre).

1b) international: still don't know, but looking forward to meet people from the basque school and perhaps i wanna be lucky and find a collaborate partner.

2) To attend the development of my bee house, watching the bee's working, get informed of what kind of problems the environment change have an impact on the bee's and finally make my own honey :).

3) How big is the environment change as a problem for the bee's.

4) To connect all the topic's to one piece of work and find a suitable collaboration partner.

Project medical plants: international collaboration and communication

1. What do we need for a collaboration?

  • Good communication in general
  • Ways of communication (Teams, Zoom, Whatsapp, etc.)
  • Clear instructions (Who does what?)
  • The horse (to update everyone on our progress)

2. What are the important questions?

  • How do we divide the project work on the teammates?
  • How much time do we have?
  • How do we set the timelines?

3. What are the advantages of an international collaboration project?

  • We can get an insight on how their country is different from ours
  • We can use our english and maybe improve it even

4. What difficulties could arise?

  • The different timezones could become difficult
  • If communication isn't going smoothly

 5. How can you get connected and involved?

  • First concact them and see if they would even consider to collaborate
  • Get their contact information (phone number, E-Mail adress, etc)

 6. How can you become a team?

  • Be friendly with each other
  • Be considerate and accept all opinions

What is our progress on collaborations with other teams?

We saw a post on the horse by a team from Kerala about medical plants. We thought it would be a great idea to collaborate with them, so we contacted them by commenting on their post. They luckily commented back to us and agreed to collaborate on this poject together. Now we are waiting to exchange our contact information and start to work on our project.

Reallife energy calculation (Naomi & Esosa)

Naomi and I wanted to find out how long you need to train on a crosstrainer to produce enough energy to bake a Pizza.

We've found out that a human beeing is able to produce 80 Watt hours, if he trains one hour on the crosstrainer.

To bake a Pizza for 15 minutes the oven needs 900 Watt. So we calculated the number of hours needed to

produce 900 Watt on a crosstrainer. The result is  ?

If you would buy the energy you would have to spend only 30 cents.

Task 6: Reallife calculation

Each morning you stand up, eat breakfast and take a shower. Before you go into the bathroom, you turn the light on and after showering you plug in the hair dryer.

The light bulb has an power of 12 ampere and the hair dryer uses 2'200 Watt, both the light and the hair dryer have been on for 10 minutes.

How many kWh have you consumed by drying your hair while the light was turned on?

Task 6: Energy calculation example

Example: Playstation 4

Assuming a daily playing time of 3 hours, the PS4 consumes 435 watts or 0.435 kWh per day. Extrapolated to a year, this corresponds to a energy of 158,775 kWh. If you multiply the annual consumption by 30 rappen per kWh, the electricity costs amount to about 45 Swiss francs annually.
