An interview with an organic farmer helped us to learn more about the importance of organic food.

1. Team Nandu Kerala - What are the benefits of organic farming?
Farmer - Organic farming produces healthy food without the use of toxic pesticides. While some organic farmers do use pesticides they are primarily derived from natural substances.Eating organic reduces the amount of chemicals in your diet.
2. Team Nandu Kerala - How can we promote organic farming at our home?
Farmer - Our people are still unaware about what they eat. They are busy and running towards fast food. We should show them the real impact of their food in their life. I also suggest that farming should be thought in schools.

3. Team Nandu Kerala - What are the things we should focus on organic farming?
Farmer - Prepare the soil with cow dung and nutritious compost.
Look out for weeds, pests after planting. Once the infestation happens, it isn’t very easy to recover.
Everyday care is a must. Watering with cow dung solution, natural fertilisers etc. shouldn’t be skipped.
4. Team Nandu Kerala - Could you please suggest some plants that apt for farming at home.
Farmer - Opt for plants that require more sunlight and need less water: tomatoes, beans, climbers are good examples.
Organic food is fresh and better for the environment.
