In our presentation we talk about following topics:
- The Stone Age was about 100’000 to 40’000 years ago. In this eara, besides the raw material stone, wood and bones were also used for tools and weapons.
- In the Copper, Bronze & Iron Age, which was about 5,000 years ago, the processing of metals was born. In the beginning only solid metals could be processed (melted/forged). But with the time, the use of iron was also introduced. The oldest smelted iron in Central Europe dates back to around 1200 BC.
- Classical antiquity (also the classical era, classical period or classical age) is the period of cultural history between the 8th century BC and the 6th century AD centered on the Mediterranean Sea, comprising the interlocking civilizations of ancient Greece and ancient Rome. The greatest civil engineers of antiquity Age were the Romans. They invented brick, cement and concrete - made from raw mineral materials like clay, lime and sand.
- In the early Middle Ages, wood became scarce throughout Europe. It was probably by chance that hard coal was discovered as an alternative source of energy; documents report on hard coal mining in the Ruhr area from 1230 onwards.
- The Steel Age: Steel was in the 1850s industrialized. It became a very import resources because it was lot stronger and durable than iron was. Steel became a staple of the world's industrial economy.
Afterwards came the Oil Industry in 1869. This happened when the first planned drilling for oil was carried out in Pennsylvania, USA. It happened quickly, because a years later already 75 oil wells were already gushing out here. Pennsylvania thus experienced the world's first oil boom.
In 1951, electricity was generated by nuclear power for the first time in the USA. This is a popular energy source still used today.
